Years fishing the Bighorn: 30

Conservation Causes: Bighorn River Alliance

Bighorn Favorite: Having fished the Bighorn River for over 30 years I am always impressed with its natural beauty, the variety of runs, riffles and islands that make it so much fun to fish, the beautiful wild rainbows and browns that produce such prolific fishing and the fact that being inside the boundary of the Crow Reservation the area around the Bighorn will never be developed leaving it one of the most pristine rivers in the country. Preserving and protecting the Bighorn is critical for its future and the generations of future anglers to come.

Bighorn Favorite: I am an avid fisher person and first discovered, along with my husband Dave, the Bighorn in 1992. We took a guided trip and on our first day landed a bunch of fish and have been hooked since. No matter where our travels would take us, we would invariably detour and end up on the Bighorn.

Bighorn Favorite: Growing up in Montana I was lucky to have a family that enjoyed outdoor activities. We would go camping, fishing and hunting all the time. By the time I got into High school my friends and I would be down floating the Bighorn every weekend. I have always loved the beauty and quality of the fishery and its surrounding. The valley is full of great people and the fishing and bird hunting is incredible.

Bighorn Favorite: The Bighorn has something for everybody. The dry fly purist can often find fish feeding on the surface. Nymph fishing produces fish for novices or intermediates- and the presence of large fish keeps everything exciting.

Occupation: Retired college president, non profit executive, business owner, physical therapist

Residence: LaGrange, IL

Conservation Causes: Bighorn River Alliance, Trout Unlimited, Pheasants Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, National Wildlife Federation, Montana Wildlife Federation, Wisconsin River Alliance, Whooping Crane Trust (Nebraska)

Bighorn Favorite: My passion for the Bighorn River and its wild trout began when my fishing guide, and soon to become close friend, Kurt Olson, first introduced me to it in October, 1986. Although I have fished many places, nothing, in my experience, comes close to the Bighorn River wild trout fishery. Although I often average 10-15 days a year on the Bighorn, and sometimes more, I never get there fast enough or am able to stay long enough. Now that I am retired from my work life, protecting this magnificent wild trout fishery is one of my top priorities.

Bighorn Favorite: My favorite thing about the Bighorn is the dry fly fishing and sight nymphing. I love all the hatches and their own uniqueness to the different seasons. The section I enjoy the most is the 3 to B section. I also value the lack of development along the Bighorn banks. I see so many rivers where the wild and scenic aspect has been impacted by development, but not the Bighorn.

Bighorn Favorite: I'm originally from Manhattan, Mt I grew up on Montana rivers all my life. I eventually moved to Wyoming, majored in Outdoor Education, and found my way back to Montana little over 5 years ago. I eventually began to call Fort Smith home, and have stayed ever since. The Bighorm offers so much to an angler, and has made its way to being my home river. I can't imagine life without it.

Bighorn Favorite: I started fishing the west in 1972 and have fished many of the blue ribbon waters in Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Montana. After finding the Bighorn, my trip was over, and the Bighorn became home. We need to protect this great fishery with maximum effort.
